Geotechnical Materials - Well Liners

Well materials are available in uPVC, HDPE and Steel.

PVC liners are available from a nominal diameter of 25mm up to 200m, well liners are WRAS approved products under the water regulations advisory scheme BS6920. They are therefore suitable for use in water abstraction projects. Various machined slot sizes to allow for ground conditions are available. The pipe is stocked in lengths of one and three metres, with each length being male/female threaded so that installations can be suited to specific site conditions.

For specification of these materials the following criteria should be stated:

"uPVC casing and wellscreens shall be supplied by an ISO9001 approved manufacturing company, the pipe shall be male/female threaded with machined slots on the wellscreen.

'The slots shall be horizontal to the pipe length to prevent slot compressions. The pipe shall be an approved product under the Water Regulations advisory scheme."

Steel Well Liners

Wire Wrapped Screen

Using a wire wedge wellscreen has specific advantages over other steel screens and allow high flows of sand free water into the well by

  • Large open area

  • Close slot tolerance to control fines

  • Efficient well yield

  • No plugging

Wellscreens are made in a range of stainless steels 304 or 316 and other weldable metals in a wide range of diameters and slot sizes from 0.25mm to 4mm.

Screens and casings are manufactured to customer requirements with threaded or flange connectors, lead time is upto 10 weeks, so please enquire early.

Bridge Slotted Screen

Bridge slot screens are formed by punching openings into a flat sheet that is subsequently rolled into a tube and welded.

The openings are arranged in staggered rows to maintain the screen's strength.

Advantages of this screen are high strength through resistance to twisting, compressive and tensile forces.

  • Slot sizes from 1.0 to 4mm

  • Wall thickness 6 or 10mm

  • Diameters from 150mm to 1000mm

  • Open area 6 to 23%

Simple Slotted Screen

These are formed from perforated plate that is rolled and welded. The holes are rectangular in shape and arranged in rows with the longer side of the slot in alignment with the pipe axis.

  • Slot sizes from 3 to 6mm

  • Wall thickness 3 to 10mm

  • Open area 14 to 23%
